Epidemiological Studies on the Prevalence of Dental Caries in Permanent Teeth of 7.224 Korean with Ages from 7 to 19.

Abstract
The author has made an epidemiological study on the prevalence of dental caries in permanent teeth of
Y 7,224 Korean with ages from 7 to.19 who live in Seoul and Inchon City area during the period from November to December 1966,: for the purpose of obtaining some epidemiological phenomena which, in a sense;
could be expected-¢¥to provide base-line data or land-marks for the future planning of more intensive study ¢¥ searching for the dental health of Korean. The systemic and accidental or unavoidable errors were also to sted through the calibration of five examiners with 50 same subjects by calculating the prevalence of ¢¥.dental caries and average number of D.M.F. teeth per mouth,
3 Accuracy and uniformity in the. methods used for caries diagnosis were obtained by the repeated calibrati on- of examiners concerning the written criteria of dental caries.
The findings obtained through this study could be summarized as follows;
1. The total number recorded as persons with one or more D.M.F. teeth either on one or more occasions was 68 and out of these only 18 were recorded on all occasions. This gives a level of - agreement of 52.94 per cent in the prevalence of dental caries by different examiners.
2. The total number recorded D.M.F. teeth through the calibration either on one or more occasions was 168 and out of these only 78 were recorded on all occasions. This gives a level of agreement of 46.42 per cent in the total number of D.M.F. teeth examined.
3. The prevalence of dental caries in this study was as follows; In ages from 7 to 8 were 7.071.16 in boys and 8.911.12 in girls, from 9 to 10 were 16.681.02 in boys and 19.230.47 in girls, from 11 to 12 were 37.03 0.97 in boys and 49.71+3.69 in girls, from 13 to 14 were 53.343.05 in boys and 59.77 4--3.74 in girls, and from 15 to 19 were 69.175.14 in boys and 72.284.86 per cent in girls.
From this data, the prevalence of dental caries was more frequent girls than that of boys.
4. The average number of D.M.F. teeth per mouth in this study resulted as follows; In ages from 7 to 8 were 0. 17, from 9 to 10 were 0. 38, from 11 to 12 were 1. 14, from 13 to 14 were 1.81 and from 15 to 19 were 2.46 teeth.
